Born to a German interior designer, Frank Handrich, and Deepa from Bengal, Dia saw her parents divorce when she was six and took her second father's name Ahmed Mirza. Her schooling was done from the Vidyaranya High School for Boys And Girls in Hyderabad. She retained a Muslim name (Mirza) but is a devout Hindu.
In the year 2000, the Sagittarian made India proud by winning the Miss Asia-Pacific contest. She was planning to complete her graduation in Arts by correspondence, but wasn’t able to cope with her hectic schedules of the Miss Asia Pacific Competition, modeling assignments, traveling and training sessions.
Dia chose Rehnaa Hai Tere Dil Mein opposite
R. Madhavan as her platform to get into the Film Industry. In all, Dia has not been able to be one of the crowd pulling factors but her performances in movies like Tehzeeb have won her critical acclaim.
